LazyBones was formed in early 2017 when songwriters Sam Stein and Brendan Olivieri met drummer Caleb Matheson while studying music at Ithaca College. Ranging from the sunny, shimmering Indie-pop of Take it Back and Existential Crisis to the hectic melancholy of their latest single Restless Sleeper, LazyBones’ sound draws on a wide variety of influences (Slowdive, Elliott Smith, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra to name a few) and can be difficult to categorize- though it is distinctly their own. The band found their footing playing DIY venues and house parties around upstate NY and was soon being asked to open for bigger acts including Wolf Parade, Charly Bliss, Vundubar, Diet Cig, and Active Bird Community. LazyBones' second single, Existential Crisis (released March 2018) received recognition as a Spotify fresh find, and the band has toured the East Coast and Mid West, playing venues such as The Empty Bottle in Chicago, Rockwood Music Hall and Coney Island Baby in NYC, Silk City Lounge in Philadelphia, The Haunt in Ithaca NY, and many more DIY venues. LazyBones plans to release an EP in April 2019 just before they graduate, and tour as much as possible afterwards.
