The West Virgina gang takes stage here at Songbyrd!
Ona is an indie-rock band comprised of longtime friends Brad Goodall (keys), Bradley Jenkins (vocals/guitar), Zach Johnston (bass), Max Nolte (drums), and Zack Owens (guitar).
The band formed in late 2013 and are based in Huntington, WV. Ona's debut record 'American Fiction' reached critical success appearing on NPR best of lists, SIRIUS Radio airplay, and a spot on nationally syndicated radio program Mountain Stage.
Son Volt’sTrace was a game changer. In 1999, Matt Ames began playing a guitar he borrowed from the high school where he taught art. He started writing songs in his basement in Baltimore, MD, joined up with a neighborhood friend, singer/songwriter Shawn Legambi, and the two of them eventually formed the band Gordon Fog. In 2017, Ames retreated to his basement and started hemorrhaging new songs about trying to escape small towns, love affairs with spirits that have been distilled, and the bliss of losing one’s mind. He penned the songs under the moniker WeatherAmes.
In the fall of 2018, he emerged from the basement, went to Annapolis, MD to record with Ahren Buchheister of Black Rhinoceros and Pompeii Graffiti and sent the songs off to Charleston, SC where they are being produced by Corey Campbell. Ames met Campbell three years ago while opening for Susto at a Schmidt House Show in Catonsville, MD. The debut WeatherAmes album, Holy Smoke, is set for release in June 2019.
With influences from the Laurel Canyon and a desire to create station wagon rock and roll, Ames joined up with bassist Sam Wynkoop, guitarist John Silver, drummer Bret Wescott, and pedal steel player Ahren Buchheister. Thanks to Marc Schmidt (the brains behind Schmidt House Shows) over the past year and a half, they have opened for Futurebirds, T. Hardy Morris, Valley Maker, Israel Nash, High Divers, Andrew Bryant, Ona, Motel Radio, Quiet Hollers, Los Colognes, Susto, and Gold Star.
