Fresh off of his European tour promoting his long awaited 2018 album Homework, Kev is commemorating his return to his hometown of Landover, MD and the DMV with an evening of live beats, live music and a live interview of all things Kev Brown. To make things even more interesting, Kev is planning to make a special announcement. The audience should expect hip hop at it's finest with an exclusive beat set from Brown, a DJ set from fan favorite DJ Bside and a panel discussion moderated by bandcamp editor Marcus J. Moore and the legendary DJ Iran. A night of this magnitude will bring out some of the biggest names in local hip hop scene. This is a once in a lifetime event.
Kev Brown is known in the Hip Hop world as a legend to say the least. The producer/mc is just a few years shy of 20 years in the business and resume that ranks him among the best. As a Landover, MD native, Kev was an integral part in ushering in the Washington, DC area music scene (also known as the DMV for DC, Maryland & Virginia) to the masses. His exceptional talent was an obvious choice to well seasoned vets and pioneers even in the earliest stage of his career. It was icons like DJ Jazzy Jeff, Marley Marl, Pete Rock, Grap Luva, Biz Markie and De La Soul who recognized his gifts as a producer and assisted in his big break in the early 2000's. Those collaborations gave Brown undeniable production credits which led to his own solo path as an artist. Releasing his debut album, "I Do What I Do" in 2005 to critical acclaim, it would be a landmark work of it's time. It was a inspiration the local DMV scene as well as the rest of the world. "I Do What I Do" would be an official introduction to Kev's artist collective, The Low Budget Crew which included Oddisee, Ken Starr, Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg, Kaimbr, DJ Roddy Rod, Cy Young, Critically Acclaimed and many others. The album, would be the first time many would hear Kev behind a mic since emerging primarily as a producer. Kev's now trademark production style was being innovated by the producer during this era on his MPC 2000xl.
Producers from around the globe have been influenced by Kev's sound discovering him through countless releases and an international list of live performances. Even peers like 9th Wonder, Diamond D and Pete Rock have named Brown as one of their favorites. Kev himself lists his musical household, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Special Ed, Soulquarians and of course late 80's-late 90's hip hop as his personal inspirations. Over the years his catalog has grown as he expanded with dozens of beat tapes, solo projects, credits as a featured artist and/or producer and projects from The Low Budget Crew. Not only has his sound appealed to the hip hop community, but neo-soul and R&B acts like Raheem DeVaughn, Phonte, Wayna and Eric Roberson have also tapped into Kev's sensibilities.
