Washington, DC’s Sub-Radio makes catchy, danceable indie pop that’s always expanding its boundaries. The sextet’s high-energy live performances and variety of outstanding vocalists have put them on the map up and down the East Coast. The band’s clean guitars, dancefloor rhythms, and powerful vocals have garnered comparisons to established indie pop acts like WALK THE MOON and MisterWives. Multiple songs have been recognized in national songwriting competitions, and Sub-Radio has gigged heavily across the region, playing at events such as Capital PRIDE, LAUNCH Music Conference & Festival, Celebrate Fairfax and Firefly Music Festival 2017. Following the success of their 2016 debut Same Train//Different Station, the band embarked on a series of monthly singles from April to September 2017. Their most recent EP Headfirst tackles the 21st-century struggle to define relationships and find a community from the offbeat perspective they’ve cultivated in their 10+ years of writing together.
Bonne Chère is a band, or more of a collective, directed by Cameron Smith. They are currently based out of Richmond, VA and released their most recent project, an EP of 3 songs (produced/mixed by Billy Pavone and mastered by Joe Laporta) entitled “So Strange” this past summer and intend to release a full length (also produced by Billy Pavone) this summer.
The current band consists of Cameron Smith (vocals / guitar) as well as some thriving local Richmond-ers. Zach Hanna is a recent staple, usually playing bass, spearheading his own group The Ledgesleepers, as well as Jason Garland (trombone), Erich Hoch (keys)of Modern Flower, Michael Bradley (sax) of The Soul Proprietors, and Vidal Bejar-Padilla (drums) - all, at some point, enrolled as VCUarts students.Beginning in High School in Virginia Beach, He began writing songs and performing shows locally releasing their debut album Good Cheer in the summer of 2016 with the help of Alex Morton at ODU for his audio engineering study. After this, they have played many notable shows locally supporting acts like Glass Animals, Local Natives, and Joywave and intend to do a tour of their own in August.
The Ferns are a DC-based band with a love for blues, funk, and groove born in the summer of 2017. Mixing catchy melodies with rhythm-driven instrumentals, their songs will tickle your ears as though early Maroon 5, Lake Street Dive, and Vulfpeck had a love child...and then decided to cover Fleetwood Mac. Swerving in and out of soulful blues, their keys-based anthems will keep you moving all night long.
