Classic Album Sundays is the world’s most popular album listening experience and allows the listener to hear music contextually, communally, uninterrupted, and in great sonic detail. At our worldwide listening sessions, music fans are able to immerse themselves into an album that has helped shape our culture and in some cases, our lives.

We relay the artist and album’s unique story and provide a musical context that gives the listening experience deeper meaning. We share the experience of hearing the album in its entirety, on vinyl, and on a world-class audiophile hi-fi so that fans can experience the music as close as possible to the artist’s original intention. Classic Album Sundays treats the album (and music in general) with the respect it deserves rather than as a free commodity or aural wallpaper. We remind people what they love about music.

For our July 2018 session we celebrate Sigur Ros' classic "Agaetis byrjun"!

Having formed in August 1994 a few days after the birth of frontman Jónsi Birgisson’s little sister, Sigur Ros adopted their homespun moniker (directly translated as “Victory Rose”) in honour of the newborn Siggurós Elin. Converging on the island’s capital of Reykjavik, guitarist/vocalist Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm, and drummer Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson soon won the affections of the local Sugarcubes-operated label Bad Taste.

The release of Ágætis Byrjun sparked an unprecedented wave of praise across both critics and fans, with many hailing it as one of the all time greats of the genre. Following the decline of grunge and alternative rock after the mid 1990s, the album seemed to represent a new way forward for guitar-based music in the 21st century; away from introspective darkness towards a sense of new-millennium optimism. Emerging at the vanguard of this new movement alongside bands such as the Scottish group Mogwai and the American band Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Rós commanded the attention of a global audience after the album was given it’s European release in 2000.

Join us at one of our album listening sessions around the world to experience Sigur Ros in a way you never have before.
