FRIDAY AUGUST 12, 2016

Songbyrd & Adrinkwithfriends Presents: FLOAT

On August 12th, we celebrate the legacy of Muhammad Ali through music. DJ Jahsonic and Sir Ramases (Vintage Vinyl "Ritmos Raros") will bring their unique perspectives to a journey through the music that defined Ali’s life and times. From the 60’s soul, 70’s funk and African beats that provided the soundtrack to Ali’s career to modern rap, hip hop and spoken word that trace their lineage to Ali’s style, we will present the music in a 12-round format that will make you dance, sing, listen, laugh and cry in celebration of The Greatest.

Featuring select works on Muhammad Ali themed art by Martin Swift, a Washington, DC-based painter and illustrator who focuses on contemporary figurative realism and absurdist narrative.

On June 3rd, 2016 the world lost The Greatest of All Time, Muhammad Ali aka Cassius Clay. Ali was a boxer, a fighter, a social activist and a cultural icon. And boy could that man talk, nicknamed “The Louisville Lip”! In an ESPN documentary “Ali Rap” and book by the same title, it is suggested that Muhammad Ali, in fact, invented rap music. Certainly, Ali’s impact on music was enormous, whether it was the Zaire 74 concert put on in connection with his famous Rumble in the Jungle against George Foreman, or the many songs that were created about, in tribute to or from the influence of the G.O.A.T.
